BIEUIGUU (Study of the non-material factors linked to the biological ones).

Although an analysis of our BIEUIGUU would require setting out the scientific bases on which our conception of Biology rests, and since we prefer to offer you an anthropological picture which, within our sciences, must necessarily be grafted onto a careful systematization embracing disciplines that are very heterogeneous for you men of Earth, and which on the other hand has already been set out in summaries sent to other brothers of this cold Star, we wish to give you a synthesis of our concept of man.

THE OEMII (May be translated: RATIONAL BEING IMMERSED IN THE WAAM).

In our WAAM a series of laws hold sway which you have on occasion been able to describe as negentropic. They are characterized by the fact that they seem to point in the opposite direction to the statistical principles that govern the degradation of matter. On another occasion we will suggest to you that in reality ENTROPY and “NEGENTROPY” are synonymous and equivalent terms within the conception of this Universe that “IS-SO-FOR-ME”

We all know that there exist multiple structures of living beings whose morphology and functions, genetically inherited from their ancestors, have seemed to you to depend on two orders of conditioning factors: the physical and ecobiological environment, and on the other hand possible alterations in the nucleic acids caused by the aggression of microphysical elements (mutations caused by radiation, etc.).

The complex and very rich phyletic composition that you have observed on EARTH (not so rich or varied on UMMO) may have led you to think that the number of possible species is infinite. On that assumption (and within the limits that would naturally be imposed by physical conditions totally adverse to the development of complex carbon compounds) you might believe that on planets with very marked “geophysical” differences (see Note 27) fabulous thinking beings “may exist” with a somatic structure that would seem monstrous to you.

Nothing could be further from reality. Indeed: cold Stars that we ourselves have known, and whose characteristics of atmosphere, mass, the star around which they revolve, etc., differ from EARTH and UMMO, harbour in some cases humanoid beings with a similar mental structure, but whose bodies show only incidental anatomophysiological differences (different heights, varied epidermis, developed organs, large cranial cavity and encephalic surface, etc. ).

The fact is that there really exist laws (which we will set out for you on another occasion) that condition the orthogenesis of beings, allowing at most an indefinite number of different forms when the biophysical framework so requires, but always provided that these various forms are - compatible with a biological substratum or universal pattern that tolerates circumstantial and superficial modifications (in reality it is a complex series of patterns) (see Note 28).

.

When the environment is excessively hostile, it is not that a species attempting to structure itself in adaptation to it perishes after a frustrated mutation; it is simply that the appearance of the new species is not possible.

Thus there exists an immense multitude of planets on which no living beings are found; or, put another way, only planets with characteristics similar to ours harbour species which in their average evolutionary forms differ from those known to you, but retain the features common to the species already familiar (nervous and circulatory systems, similar, bony structures and tissues with different forms but with a physiological and cytoplasmic basis already known in its general outline ).

But the differences are even smaller in oligocellular or primary beings and, at the other end of the scale, in the complex Phyla (anthropoids).

We establish a criterion to distinguish the “higher or intelligent anthropoid” from the lower animal, even if the latter has anthropoid features like the primates of EARTH: it is the presence of the third factor OAMBUAM, which we will describe further on. And we call OEMII the somatic complex (material and therefore perceptible with our sense organs) of what you call “HOMO SAPIENS”.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE EARTH OEMII AND THE OEMII OF UMMO.

We have just pointed out to you that the thinking beings existing on the relatively few inhabited planets (see Note 29) do not differ excessively from our soma (we have been surprised by the fantasies conceived by your novelists and even by terrestrial biologists who postulate the existence of beings based on the chemistry of silicon, or intelligent many-legged, one-eyed monsters with gelatinous skin, etc., etc.). Naturally, since you are unaware of that series of laws, you are at a cultural stage in which such hypotheses are bound to proliferate and provoke the speculation of scientists.

We know that a phylogenetic hypothesis that postulates an excessive degree of freedom for the genetic message to be translated into every kind of higher-order biological structure is inexact. If the ecological environment is suitable and analogous to the one we know on our respective OYAA, the appearance of “humans”, as you call us, or OEMII in our language, will be possible. If, on the contrary, the biophysical conditions are adverse to the degree and estimation that we indicate below, the appearance of other living beings (see Note 30) that are not “rational” will indeed be possible, but never THINKING BEINGS.

Although setting out for you all the conditioning physical aspects would be complex, we select some of the most important. Those Planets that do not have defined features within such limits will not harbour human or thinking beings, which must necessarily resemble us in their anatomical constitution.

RANGES OF THE PHYSICOBIOLOGICAL CONDITIONS THAT MAKE POSSIBLE THE GENESIS OF OEMII FROM LOWER AYUUBAAYI (LIVING BEINGS).

Surface temperature of the “solar” star: 6170 K to 4552 K

Eccentricity of the planetary orbit: 0 to 0,1766 ± 0,0002

Rotation time or rotational period: 16 h 31 m to 84 hours.

Range of temperatures on the surface of the planet: 241 K to 319 K (U-C Note: between -32 ºC and 47 ºC)

Mass of the planet: 2,65 · 1027 g to 12,01 · 1027 g (U-C Note: Earth: 5,98 · 1027 g ; UMMO: 9,36 · 1027 g)

Percentages of atmospheric gas in the vicinity of the lithosphere:

OXYGEN 18% at least

NITROGEN 64% “ “

Cosmic radiation (mean values) below 0, 48 nuclei (cm2) (s) (steradian for 1,8 GeV / nucleon

But we repeat that these are only some of the most important environmental factors, for the characteristics of an ecosystem have a strong influence in setting the threshold that allows human beings to appear. The excessive development of certain species of microorganisms has prevented the generation of OEMII on some planets.

At a specific stage of evolution within an OYAA, the OEMII will show typical features that distinguish them from other OEMII living on the remaining planets.

See, for example, in our case, some of those characters that identify us with respect to the “HOMO SAPIENS” of EARTH. (For security reasons we will omit part of those affecting our external anatomy).

ANATOMY OF THE OEMII OF UMMO.

These distinguishing features are numerous, although they may be described as of little importance if we consider only the exomorphological or external image, to the point that my brothers and I pass unnoticed among other inhabitants of EARTH.

Thus it would be easy to distinguish the different cerebellar structures corresponding to the anterior lobe and what you call Flechsig's cerebellar tract.

Within the limbic complex -more developed than that of HOMO SAPIENS- the anatomical difference of the amygdala is clearly observable; incidentally, it is not connected with the hippocampus as it is in you. The septal structure also occupies a larger volume. In general the ratio:

Mn + Mg Mn = mass of nerve nuclei (Neurons)

----------- Mg =mass of neuroglial cells

Mfm Mfm = mass of myelinated tracts

is higher than yours by 17, 6 % to 23, 1 %.

It is in the Hypophysis that the anatomophysiological differences may be described as exceptional. We have noted in you the absence of two hormones secreted by us. We have also recorded in you a greater stability and fixation of cutaneous melanin. In our case pigmentation can vary within wider limits in time and in the areas affected.

The self-regulated production of tyrosinase in very variable concentrations has no parallel in you. On the other hand, the recorded levels of carboxyhaemoglobin (called WOODAA by us) are very much lower (by -77,34%).

Typical in us is a carotenic (yellowish) pigmentation in an area of the body that we do not indicate for security reasons, since it would facilitate our identification. As a curiosity we will tell you that in our hair there is a compound that we have not succeeded in detecting in yours. It has the following formula:

A truly discriminating characteristic, although it is not exclusive to a large part of the inhabitants of UMMO, is the atrophy, towards the age of 16 Earth years, of the epiglottis, as well as of the thyroarytenoid muscle and the lingual cords. An appreciable percentage of my brothers (I and several of my fellow travellers on EARTH were selected precisely for this exceptional characteristic) possess a phonation organ, although not as perfected as yours.

The genesis of this degeneration has very complex historical and biological roots, and we have not tried to correct it by genetic modification, since it does not constitute a problem for us today (my brothers use amplifying prostheses).

Of all the differences detected, none will perhaps seem so strange to you as our special olfactory and cutaneous sensitivities, as well as the special psychovestibular effects.

Thus in our olfactory epithelium a density of 38000 sensory cells per cm2 can be observed, among which four types can be distinguished: three ciliated and one (AASNOOSAIWEE) spheroidal. Their fibres pass through the olfactory bulb (somewhat differently structured from that of the Earth OEMII, with no glomeruli or mitral fibres in it). Compared with you we can be considered hyperosmic. The perception thresholds are lower. The resolving and discriminating capacity of sensitivity to odours is certainly very acute. For many OIWI past on UMMO we have practised an art (untranslatable) which we call “IAIQUEAI”, mixing aromas to obtain genuine “scores” or tempo-olfactory pictures.

We were surprised by the scant neuroafferent activity of your epidermal sensory neurons located in the hands, especially in the UNIOBIGAA (fingertips) and in the palms of the hands and the wrists. We have classified up to 37 cutaneous receptors, one of them sensitive to mechanical frequencies of up to 26600 cycles / sec.; others, located in the outermost layers of the epidermis, are active to electromagnetic radiation corresponding to the bands 6, 23 to 9, 8 · 1014 c/s. (light and ultraviolet) and 4,2 - 4, 8 · 1014 c/s. Thermal sensitivity is also more active. Although we are not able to distinguish sharp images with our wrists, we can detect luminous areas (see Note 31).

Our fingertips are particularly valuable to us for integrating vibromechanical patterns, being especially sensitive to these frequencies. The palms of the hands are also photosensitive, though to a lesser degree than the wrists. This prevents us from performing with our fingers certain tasks to which you can become accustomed. Strong percussion on the fingertips and on the wrist can seriously injure our sensitive organs. Pressing very stiff buttons, exerting a gripping action at high pressure, typing on a machine are exercises in which you surpass us. I can personally testify to the real difficulties I had to endure when I arrived on EARTH, in operations as harmless for you as pressing a few push-buttons to operate lifts and electric switches. When no one from EARTH is watching me, I still use my knuckles for these purposes.

We have not been able to distinguish differential features in the anatomophysiological constitution of the vestibular organ, apart from small variations in the granulometric spectrum of the otoliths and the smaller volume of our utricle. However, we have been able to verify that the sensation you experience when subjected to certain levels of acceleration is not associated, as it is in us, with strong emotional reactions of a sexual character, very similar to those of orgasm (see Note 32).

There is one more external characteristic that would identify us. I beg you to excuse us, however, for not describing it to you.

The sexual function in the members of my social network is similar to that of the men of EARTH. The most conspicuous differences appear in the YIIE (woman), with an endocrine system that is easily distinguishable from that of the female of your planet.

The YIEE (see Note 33) has an oestrous cycle whose chronological period is equivalent to 19, 252 UIW ± 11 UIW (about 42 days). Ovulation and menstruation have aspects quite different from those familiar to you. We have achieved exact regulation of all these cycles. The destructive phase of the endometrium is carefully recorded by sensors placed on the lower abdomen. The menstrual residues are collected by aseptic capsules that the woman fits during this phase, and their components are disintegrated, transformed into sodium and subsequently into helium.

The ovum, like our spermatozoon, cannot be distinguished from the human one of Earth; nevertheless, the whole process of maturation of what you call the follicle takes place under different biological constants. The woman lacks the hymen typical of Earth women.

We have never made a test of coitus with a brother or sister of yours. Our norms forbid such an experiment for the time being (see Note 34), but in view of the different physio-anatomical features that characterize us, even though an inexpert observer would not easily find them in a superficial morphological examination, we have grounds to assure you that the product of such a gestation would suffer serious structural deformities in the cerebral and cerebellar hemispheres and in the whole endocrine secretory system, and very probably in the neuroautonomic, digestive and renal systems.

Do not think that modifying the genetic bases by acting at the nucleocellular level is easy. We possess effective means for altering the genetic message, and yet its artificial disturbances, especially when they affect the structuring of the nervous system, unfailingly cause terrible mental alterations in the beings so engendered.

The woman on UMMO sees the appearance of her first cycle between the ages of 15,38 and 16,6 (Earth years).

SEXUAL AND CONJUGAL LIFE OF THE OEMII OF UMMO.

During a first phase in the life of our children, the parents are responsible for their postnatal and adolescent upbringing, but from the age of 13,7 (Earth years) what you would call parental authority passes to the Council of UMMO (UMMOAELEWEE).

The youngsters (boys and girls) are transferred to large educational centres, UNAUOUEE, veritable cities provided with every possible system that makes feasible the integration of the individual into a Social Network: a pattern, a true biosocial model of what the Social Network of UMMO will later be for them.

The maturity of the child is assessed according to standard mental patterns. It is our SANMOOE AIUVAA Network (a complex of computers that partly governs the development of UMMO) that detects in each case the threshold levels conventionally accepted as a sign of such maturity.

At the same time the SANMOOE AIUVAA provides the parents at every moment with the audiovisual means for education at all levels and on all subjects, adapting them to the particular personal features of the child concerned. Thus sex education is considered commonplace on our UMMO. Never in History do we know of it being considered taboo -as on EARTH- by a sociocultural structure.

However, such education has features distinct from those familiar to you. Although any restriction on the visual presentation of the biophysiological aspects of these processes would be described as absurd, girls and boys are instilled with a particular sense of modesty, according to which the uncovered body may be shown only to the future spouse.

Boys and girls learn that, in exceptional cases, their immediate superior -whatever his or her sex and age- (parents, educators, “heads”...) may if he so wishes (although this rarely happens) order them to undress, and it is precisely this relatively infrequent eventuality that provokes the greatest reaction of shame when it occurs (see Note 35).

When the superior belongs to the other sex or is younger in chronological age, such a punishment constitutes a humiliating affront, hard for the men of EARTH to understand.

The woman always covers her thorax. Thighs, arms, head, throat, hands, feet and lips are not erogenous areas for us, so the “kiss” has no meaning. The organs generating sexual pleasure to a greater degree are the genitals, breasts, belly, buttocks and back. When we have to undergo any process that you would call surgical -in cases of trauma affecting some area of the body- the epidermis is covered with UBAA SIAA, a pigment that colours the skin with polychrome patches.

One of the serious “penalties” provided for in the UAA (Legislation) of UMMO consists precisely in publicly stripping the offender so sanctioned of his attire; he is exhibited naked in a thermally conditioned transparent enclosure. This sanction, still in force, is never applied at present, but it was relatively frequent in not very distant times.

NOTE 27.- You will not consider the prefix GEO correct when referring to other stars. We use it nevertheless, to avoid the torrent of neologisms that rejecting it would impose.

NOTE 28. - A simile may make this assertion understandable: over a great valley between mountains, crossed by a mighty river, various civilized generations may build towns and bridges, break up its land, and fell or replant entire forests. The appearance of the landscape would change for observers of different epochs, and would even be radically different if confined to a limited area: a village. But for an aviator taking photographs with a low-resolution camera, the topography of the terrain in its general features would remain unaltered. And although the styles of the village buildings will differ every century, adapting to the cultural environment, seen from a few kilometres higher up the village would still be a white patch amid the greenish grey of the land. Thus the phyletic alterations of beings may be perceptible to an observer with great resolving power of analysis, but only so long as the biological macroframework of the WAAM retains its peculiar constant features.

NOTE 29. - We have had direct access to a few planets and have received information about some others. Our journeys have barely exceeded (when the conditions of spatial “curvature” have been optimal) a limit of 1266 light-years. - Our Galaxy has a maximum dimension of 117.312 light-years, and we are totally unaware of civilizations that may be outside it. If we presume that in other macroclusters of stars the conditions must be similar, it is because we verify those biological laws with the statistical sample of inhabited planets recorded. The result was favourable and the laws have been confirmed by experience.

The intelligent brothers who inhabit them have very specific anatomorphic features (large cranial vault, genitals with a developed clitoris, digits of the extremities fused by a membrane, slightly scaly epidermis, horny eyelids, hair on the buttocks, absence of molars in some cases, voluminous lungs, pharynx protected by permeable membranes...).

NOTE 30. - For other biostructures there will be similar conditioning factors of another order, which it would be tedious to enumerate. Limiting factors whose ranges will be all the wider (or, put another way, the more distant the upper and lower limits for each physical condition) the less complex the AYUUBAAY I (BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURAL NETWORK OR LINKED SET OF CELLS) is.

NOTE 31. - With our wrist we can perceive vague coloured surfaces, greenish, violet and purple, provided the light intensity does not reach a certain threshold of blocking or inhibition, in which case only the eyes remain sensitive to the light stimulus. Thus we can find our way in semi-darkness with our eyes closed. The perception is monochrome, whatever the wavelength.

NOTE 32. - In us, reactions of erection accompanied by sexual pleasure occur in these three situations: orgasm during coitus; movement at increasing speeds, when oriented axially to the body axis (rarely in negative accelerations); and when we are naked before another brother of either sex. But only in the first case does seminal ejaculation occur.

NOTE 33. - YIE and GEE are classified within the same “gender”. The identification of sex in oral and written information in our language is done in another way.

NOTE 34.- Any direct interference by our exploring society affecting the normal development of the men of EARTH, to a biological degree classified by us as AAEXEEBEE, is considered unethical by our superiors. We would consider it a most serious violation to carry out this experiment of fusion between intelligent beings of both planets without the official consent of EARTH. Our brothers may not cohabit with beings of EARTH without a tacit agreement at the socio-representative levels of both planets.

NOTE 35. - The superior may never give this order in the presence of a third OEMII. This power constitutes the most serious faculty for purposes of penal sanction possessed by an OEMII of hierarchical rank, which is why he is prudent before using it.
